For the month of May, CorpU analysts and researchers have identified five mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships worthy of comment from the news, including Trivantis's acquisition of Flypaper, VMware's acquisition of Socialcast, Microsoft's acquisition of Skype, Knightsbridge Human Capital Management's acquisition of iPal Interactive, and InVision's acquisition of The Call Center School.
Trivantis, a provider of an elearning authoring tool Lectora, has acquired Flypaper Studio in May 2011. Founded in 2008, Flypaper Studio develops Flash content creation platform that enables users to create, edit, share, track and reuse Flash and video content. This acquisition will combine Trivantis' expertise in the eLearning industry and the opening up of new Flash and Digital Signage markets served by the Flypaper platform. This acquisition will provide the opportunity for Trivantis and Flypaper Studio to explore new markets, not only in the eLearning business, but also in the rapidly expanding digital signage market.

Microsoft has acquired Skype for $8.5 billion. Skype is an Internet communications company that connects 170 millions of people on a daily basis, enabling them to communicate with each other through voice calls, chat messages and video conferencing.
The acquisition of Skype will enhance Microsoft's portfolio of real-time communications products such as Lync, Outlook, Messenger, Hotmail and Xbox LIVE. Skype will support Microsoft devices such as Xbox and Kinect, Windows Phone and a wide array of Windows devices.
